these are my grasshopper and script setups for rhino that i use as a base when i start with facade panelings:
plat panels
shows the deviation for every panel - also reads out the deviation max.

surface triangulation
both setups have a switch to flip the triangulation direction

‘dis’regarding kahn’ - project for the masterclass of wolf prix at the university of applied arts in vienna - finals 06|2007

Considering Louis Kahn’s Esherick House to be a small but iconic example of his architectural oeuvre, which reflects various ideas about his manipulation of material, light and spacial composition, this project tries to analyze those qualities in a rather unexpected approach – following the rules of a process driven deformation.
Within a boundary condition derived from Kahn’s construction methods for the building, a fluid-dynamics engine disrupts the structural elements while assembling new interlinks in order to create a coherent ‘abstract’ of the Esherick House. Conceiving the result as an objective figure and not as a transfused redesign this experimental setup provides an opportunity to prove self-similarities/distictions between the original and it’s derivative according to architectural perception and it’s relevance regarding a contemporary context. As opposed to its formal appearence which dissolves through the process, spacial dependencies remain in an intergradient configuration. The shadow/light ratio which is an important aspect in Kahn’s work – using distinctive openings to modulate the space gets inverted into a dispersive light pattern flickering through the ‘abstract’. This inversion gets reinforced trough the porosity of the floorplates, an effect emerging from the experimental parameters. As a direct feedback to the deformation the site(landscape) reacts as a counterforce to set the new shape.

LAYERS AGAINST INDEX
(refers to a theorie of jeffrey kipnis about hyperindexicality in architecture)
regarding hyperindexical qualities in an architectural project, one strategy is possibly the layering of building components. to dissolve and emotionalize the architectural perception of space, common notions of the detachment between skin, structure and floor plan have to be reconceived in order to create a seamless affection to the observer. multiple layers that contain diverse functional aspects could be one of the techniques to achieve this effect. the superposition of different spatial aspects in this work tries to show these coherences. although theres still an existing overall enclosure it is not perceivable in a familiar way of reading architecture. the used layers appear as complex systems and generate a developing interference of elements. the topological reference to the environment turns into artificiality without ignoring the context. therefore indexical relationships can no longer be perceived and abdicate the interpretation.
